According to Mr.Ariely in the chapter "Context of our character" students that attended Harvard, UCLA , MIT, Princeton, and Yale all cheat! OMG ! Who can believe it that the best and brightest students could ever think about doing the big "C" while taking a test. Sadly enough i can believe it. People want to treat the kids that get accepted into these amazing schools as if they are untouchable and perfect. However they must have missed the memo that their kids are human too. I mean if they were able to resist the temptation of plagiarism and cheating then why do universities go through so much trouble into threatening their incoming and present students with being expelled from school if they find out such a crime took place? And i don't doubt that students still attempt to cheat or copy some others work because their grade is at stake.
I believe that is the fault of being human, that we are tempted to cheat or take a peep at the things which have been forbidden for us to see. It is that strange attraction which has been the center of many stories like in the Bible, with Eve's fall from grace after being told by God not to eat from the Tree of Knowledge and did. Or when a child is told not to touch something because its hot and then they do it anyway. It is a constant cycle of trial and error for human beings.
However when it comes to other things such as doing drugs, speeding down the highway, driving alcohol, or even having sexual relations with someone else our minds being thinking differently. When we live in a whole were sex, drugs and partying are seen as the intentiation into adulthood then we face a greater problem. Young adults parttaking in these activities and not thinking about the consequences of their actions. Recently my friends and I tried our first attempt at clubbing because we haven't gone eversince we all turned eighteen. We ventured to Universal City Walk to enjoy a night out and i was very excited since i didn't have to be home at a set hour. By the time 11 came by my other friemd had arrived with her guy friend after making a big deal about having other guys with her. So we tried twice to get into Saddle Ranch with no victory. The guy then asked if we wanted to go to a party i said maybe where is it?
Lon story short i went against my mother's wishes and went to the party in a bad part of town where there wasn't anything but drinking and smoking. I swear that tha t the cops would pull in at any second. I got home around two with fear in my soul that she would know.
Honesty is a major thing to humans we base realtionships, business and advice on the fragile table of honesty hoping that the peole we know will treat us with respect and keep it real. But at times the honesty we put so much faith into is misplaced and betrayed causing us to end whatever ties we have that person or group of friends. Honesty will always remain a strong emotion within our eyes because it is something that we expect from one another among other things.
